What to Consider With a Dental Holiday/Tourism?
Hi, I’m Dr Debraj Chakraborty, the principal dentist of Carina Gardens Dental here at Carina in Brisbane. You can call me Dr Raj.
Last Friday, we saw a new patient, Jackie from Sunnybank, who just came back from overseas where she had all of her implants placed. And she had some issues. Unfortunately, she couldn’t go back to that country again because it was simply not viable for her to hop onto the next plane and go overseas again. And she couldn’t go back to the dentist that she was seeing because she was too embarrassed to go there.
So, she happened to come to us and had a consultation. I think it’s quite frustrating when you have spent so much money, I think she spent around $20,000 or so for the procedure, and don’t have someone to support you if something goes wrong.
We definitely don’t like seeing patients in that situation, so I thought I’d make this short video to help guide you just in case you are considering a dental holiday.
The first reason why we find that overseas dentistry can be quite challenging is that aftercare is always a problem. Even if it’s a small procedure or it’s a major procedure, it doesn’t matter. Whether you had a crown and a root canal done, or you had some veneers done, or you had implants placed, the problem is aftercare.
Once you have put something in your mouth, it doesn’t just end there. You have to take care of it and maintain it, and that’s where the problem starts. What happens when something goes wrong? There is simply no warranty. It is a done-and-forget situation.
With a dental holiday, it might appear to be cheaper in the beginning. What is the cost if it doesn’t work out when you get back? What is the cost to fix that, not just financially, but in terms of your health, your inconveience, your comfort and time off work to fix it?
Our practice, Carina Gardens Dental, is an accredited practice. This means that we’ve got certain standards we need to follow, and we will not compromise on those. We treat our patients like our family, not just a number, and we always are there even after the procedure is over, as our patients’ well-being is topmost priority.
If you are thinking of a dental holiday, have the holiday, and let us take care of the dental side. Don’t mix the two.
If you’re looking for a new dental clinic to care for you and your loved ones, we would love to look after you.
Simply call us on 07 3398 3918, complete the form on our website, or send us a DM on social media, and we’ll help you organise your consultation. See you in the next video.
